MaineGeneral Health & the AYCC
In May 2020, the Peter Alfond Foundation (PAF) endowed MaineGeneral with grant funding to advance innovative strategies to improve lives, leading to the establishment of the Peter Alfond Prevention & Healthy Living Center (PAPHLC). Peter Alfond had a profound vision for his community: to meet people wherever they are on their healthcare journey, making “health” not just a state of being but a cultural cornerstone. Although Peter passed away in 2017, his vision continues with MaineGeneral’s and the Alfond Youth & Community Center’s commitment to community and health.
Today, through the support of the PAF, more families in the Kennebec Valley have access to health and wellness programs right in their community at the Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC). The Peter G. Alfond Pathway to Wellness, a collaboration between MaineGeneral’s Prevention & Healthy Living and MaineGeneral’s Sports Medicine is a testament to this vision.
“We’re pleased to offer more services to keep our community healthy and do so with a valued partner like the Alfond Youth & Community Center,” says Chuck Hays, former MaineGeneral Health CEO.
MaineGeneral will provide evidence-based programs at the AYCC for adults at risk for, or living with chronic diseases. Additionally, active individuals can access free athletic training services at the AYCC, ensuring that wellness is within reach for everyone.
Today, AYCC members have access to free healthy living classes and athletic training services here at the AYCC.
