Volunteers – Interns
Why should you volunteer with the AYCC?
Our volunteers make a direct, lasting impact on our community.
On average, we serve 5,000 youth members from 191 communities annually. We address issues such as food insecurity, educational inequity, social-emotional resilience, and overall health and wellness. In 2020, we served over 35,000 free meals to our community, offered emergent childcare, and launched virtual tutoring programs in partnership with Colby College to address learning loss. Quite literally none of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities
Athletics
Coaches – Share your love and passion for sport! You will teach sport-specific skills, mental toughness, good sportsmanship, and ultimately how to compete in a positive and productive way.
Event Management – The AYCC hosts tournaments year-round, welcoming teams from across Maine and New England. You will assist with game management; scorekeeping, crowd, and safety management, etc.
Childcare & Education
AMP UP Mentor Program – Mentors assist youth ages 5-12 in developing daily life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, academic excellence, and building healthy relationships. Through weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions, you will have the opportunity to become a positive role model in a child’s life. Be the change today!
Gardens & Greenhouse – Volunteers with the Gardens & Greenhouse will be participating in organic gardening, vegetable production, and youth education. Tasks may include weeding, greenhouse building maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest processing, hauling compost and cultivation with hand tools.
Greenhouse to Your House Program – The Greenhouse to Your House program provides a free, healthy, and fresh product to our community to help mitigate food insecurity in the short term, but the meal kit concept helps create cultural change by defining a new narrative around healthy food and cooking at home with the goal of inspiring families to implement healthier practices in the long term.
Weekly boxes are prepared to send home to families and we need your help! Join us on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays to help organize ingredients and pack the boxes for our families.
Preschool – In our Preschool Classroom, you will read stories, help with art projects, and engage in imaginative play with youth ages 3-5.
Unified Champion Club Partners
Unified Champion Club Partners – The first program of its kind in the nation, the AYCC Unified Champion Program promotes social inclusion using sports and clubs as the foundation to create climates of acceptance. Members with disabilities feel welcome and are routinely included in, and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities and functions. Volunteers called Partners play a big role in creating an inclusive environment and assist with learning new skills.
Volunteers are the backbone of this program. By implementing inclusive sports, youth leadership opportunities, and whole facility engagement, the Unified Champion Program will create meaningful change in creating a socially inclusive community that supports and engages all learners.
The Unified Champion Club participates in a number of activities throughout the year, including arts & crafts, softball, swimming, softball, volleyball, bocce ball, basketball, volleyball, walking club, and more!
