Mid-Maine Dolphins Welcome New Head Coach to Lead Swim Team to Success

Waterville, Maine – March 12, 2025 – The Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Reed as the Head Coach for the Mid-Maine Dolphins Swim Team.

Reed brings over a decade of coaching experience at the YMCA, USA Swimming, and high school levels to the Mid-Maine Dolphins. With a strong background in program development, he has successfully grown teams and guided athletes to new levels of success in and out of the pool. His coaching philosophy emphasizes technique, teamwork, and fostering a love for the sport while helping swimmers achieve their goals. A former member of the U.S. Air Force, Coach Matt applies leadership, discipline, and mentorship to create a positive and competitive team environment.

Reed has served as the Director of Aquatics, Safety, and Education and Head Coach for the Twin Cities Swim Team (TCST) at YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston since August 2022. He was recently recognized as the 2024-2025 YMCA Swim Coach of the Year! Reed was previously the Head Swim Coach for Winslow High School and the AYCC Aquatics Director from 2014-2017.

“We are fortunate to have a professional, dedicated, and knowledgeable coach in Matt who will lead the Dolphins into the future,” said Senior Director of Healthy Living Programs Kate Roy. “He has a proven ability to lead, inspire, and mentor kids into achieving their goals, and I am excited to see how far our swimmers go with his guidance.”

Reed is also an active member of the Maine Air National Guard. As a Career Enlisted Aviator, he performs critical aircrew duties and in-flight refueling operations. He previously served in the United States Air Force as an Instructor Airborne Communications Systems Tech from 2017 to 2021.

Reed lives in Waterville with his wife and baby boy. His wife, Liz, will also join the coaching staff as an assistant coach on deck and provide administrative support for meets. Matt and Liz start their roles at the AYCC in April.
